United States: As these new health guidelines are telling doctors to help women who experience pain when getting an intrauterine device (IUD). The health authorities or officials really wants doctors to talk to patients about the possibility of this pain during the procedure and offer ways to manage it before the IUD is placed.
These new rules come after many women across the country shared their painful experiences with getting an IUD.
Experts Support the New Guidelines
As reported by The Washington Post, “I think it’s absolutely excellent guidance,” said Eve Espey, chair of the American College of Obstetricians and Gynaecologists’ Contraceptive Equity Expert Work Group and the OB/GYN department at the University of New Mexico. “It’s helping ensure we listen to our patients’ needs and preferences for outpatient procedures that may be painful.”

Although this particular issue has been gained importance in the recent years as IUD’s have become an increasingly popular contraceptive option for the younger women and the teens who have taken their concerns about it and this is most painful procedures to the social media and just because the younger patients typically have not given any birth this IUD placement can really be more painful for this particular age group.
Social Media Brings Painful Experiences to Light
In the beginning of this year the Washington post has already reported that numerous women that were using their smartphones to document their screams and tears and the distress during the IUD and insertion process also.
In their social media posts patients who have experienced the IUD pain have described the process and in the social media posts and described the procedure in the graphic terms which includes an explosion or suffering from the cramps and a sensation of pulling or pushing and also the slicing or being cut or ripped open inside.
As many of them have said that they were not warned, or they were not aware by the pain that they’ll be going through or didn’t give adequate options to manage this.
